Glass Hotel

Dad had some meetings in D.C. at this amazing new hotel. And this is where he and Mom stayed while he was attending them. It looked like an airport to me with all of the glass and expanse of space. It was something else. We found a fabulous little place to eat near there with delicious black bean burgers. Yay for cell phone pics and an expense paid fancy hotel :)

Mi Tia

I am a giant!!!Ah, much better :)

One of my favorite people ever, always a highlight to see my lovely aunt.

Lily

I am very thankful that I got to see my beautiful little cousin Lilyana, not once, but three brief times in the past month. It was great to finally meet her and hold this precious, much prayed over little miracle. We love you Lily!

The engulfing west...

Kristina is gone! She just left for some place called Loma Linda California that has a habit of swallowing up my friends. How did we not take more pictures before you left??? We miss you!

Yuan Fu

Great meal at Yuan Fu! Hard to read the bill though...

Because Africa is in South America

I am supposed to be leaving on a trip in a few days and it was going to be Brazil, then Liberia, possibly Zimbabwe.

Elissa texted me to ask how things were coming along with my trip to Zambia or where ever it was now.

I told her I was going to Ecuador. She said "Oh, right...because Africa is in South America..."

In light of my last post, I had to laugh. Glad I am around geographically oriented and globally aware individuals. Now, off to see more of the world!

Overheard:

The weekend before last, when I went downtown to admire the blossoms, I overheard so many interesting conversations. Here are a few examples:

"Obama is still young.", "He's young????"

"I'd have to mortgage my house to get a lens that big..."

"1, 2, 3, 4, 12...so close!"

"My great grandma is 102."

"It smells like fish and strawberry Chapstick."

"Where is Cambodia?"

"How could you loose him??? He's wearing all red!", "It's like freaking where's Waldo out there!"

All around me there were:
-families having a picnic
-a father playing football with his boys
-a child attempting to sing the Hallelujah chorus from a tree
-a couple brides trying to take pictures amidst the crowds
-some guy doing the electric slide...

So many people; great place to people watch.

I have to say my favorite (albeit horrifying) exchange of the day went something like this:

Girl: "Mommy, is Africa in South America?", Mother: "Yes, sweetie, Africa is in South America." Father: "No, Africa is not in South America". Daughter: "Where is it then?", Father: "I don't know, but I know it's not there."

I was dumbfounded.

This is what makes me fear for the future.

NYC: Hope for Japan

This past weekend I went to New York City. I was asked to represent ADRA and talk about our work in Japan at a benefit concert going on at the Church of the Advent Hope. I took the train up and spent some time wandering in the subway, eventually making it to church. Yet again, I went to NYC and didn't see much of the city, but I had a lovely time and made some new friends. The concert was a success and I plan to visit again soon. :)

Happy birthday!

For whatever reason, I have decided that I am old. Not that I feel old, I actually feel quite young. Yet somehow I am unwilling to accept the march of time, the growing numbers, and the passing years. How am I already to that point? So sad. Now that 25 has come and gone, I will stop counting. Haha. It doesn't really feel like my birthday, but it's a nice excuse to celebrate. Happy birthday to me. Thank you guys for all the love, you're the ones who make this day special. Thank you for reminding me that age is just a number and that I am only as old as I feel...I still need to be reminded of that from time to time. :)

Petal Showers

The happy thing about spring and rain is it creates petal showers that collect in drifts and are there to greet me when I get home from work. :)

It's great to be with family...

On Sunday I had fun hanging out with my lovely cousins. Most of these pictures are of the precious babies: Isabelle and Lilyana. It seems like not so long ago we were calling Anne Elisabeth and Allison the babies and carrying them around as they are now doing with the next set. It's great to be with family.
